The Doodle Skirt

January 18, 2012

Don’t you love it when scraps practically refashion themselves? The leftovers from my Not The Army Anymore project begged to be transformed into this cool creation:

Here’s how I did it:

Grab the top of a couple of long johns (or sweat pants) – I had 2 left from making my maxi & mini skirts.

Cut the waistband off of one - this will be the bottom half of your skirt.

Pop your 2 pieces right-sides-facing & sew together

Turn right side out & stitch in the ditch for extra strength (sew directly in/on top of the seam line)

*If you’re using your hubby’s old army long johns be sure to sew the wee-hole(s) closed!

Trim & hem the bottom of your skirt if desired…

hmmm…it’s a bit boring & still longjohn-y…so let’s get doodling!

a few different zigzag widths + a few different thread colours + a few twists & turns of the fabric = Stitch-doodling – a super easy method to add some fun details

It takes more time to doodle than it does to make the skirt but it’s definitely worth it!

…from 3 pairs of my hubby’s old army long johns I created 3 groovy skirts for myself!

The Maxi that started it all…

The Mini that came next…

The Knee-length that used the last scraps!
