With Valentine’s Day fast approaching I’ve been wracking my (cheapbastard) brain for a final sweet n’ simple prezzie to make for the hubs…cheers to Mr. Internet for showing me this so I could create this:

a kissin’ couple clothespin that’s the mirror image of us!

it’s a cinch to make your own in minutes with stuff you already have on hand…

You’ll need: a wooden clothespin, pencil & paints (or markers)

Lightly mark where you’d like the clothing to be.

Carefully paint on your details & let dry.

Mwah!

Huzzah! The new Ikea brochure has arrived! Packed full of funky furnishings we don’t need but will hopefully find in the As-is section when we next pop in to waste a day browsing. The clever Ikea flyer designers included a delightful Tipp:

a cheap, cheerful, quick & scrumptious scone recipe…

Ingredients you already have: 1 cup of flour, 2.5 tsp baking powder, 1/4 cup of butter & 1 cup of your favourite yoghurt (I used strawberry – yumdiferous!)

Mix everything together into a sticky dough

Lightly flour your hands (to prevent sticking), form dough into balls & place on a floured baking sheet.

Bake at 200 celsius, 390 fahrenheit, gasmark 7 for 15 minutes – until tops are golden brown

Serve hot with butter! Über-Lecker!

…aaaand even tastier when fresh berries are added to the mix!

We’ve been on the look-out for a play kitchen for our pots & pans banging girlie – a fabulous first birthday present, right? Unfortunately all that seem to be available are crappy plastic cheapos or exorbitantly priced (but totally groovy) wooden creations that are nicer than our own kitchen! Argh!

Luckily Ikea Hackers (the most inspirational furniture hack site ever!) swooped in to save the day! We’ve narrowed our diy-idea-choice down to five, which do you like best?

This rockin’ rustic built-in kitchen is courtesy of Jana K. Kudrnova from the Czech Republic. We love that the top is still usable for adult kitchen stuff, it’s affordable & appears easy to build.

How completely ingenious is this DIY Modern Play Kitchen from the fabulously cute n’ clever Carla at small + friendly? – via Ikea Hackers – The best part? We already have the Malm night stands!

This cutie patootie Strawberry RAST Kitchen from Kipsy in the UK speaks to my own toddler-time obsession with all things Strawberry Shortcake, I loved smelling their fruity heads! Looks fairly uncomplicated to construct & the RAST series at Ikea is über-cheap! yay!

Chris created an absolute dream Vintage Style Play Kitchen – a bit out of our budget and diy talent but a seriously awesome hack!

Adorable, affordable & simple to make this space saving kitchen by Virginia – Apartment Therapy via Ikea Hackers – has definitely made it into our top 3 possible creations!

The 5 minute cool-down top

As I’m actually starting to see results from my daily baby weight be gone workouts I thought I’d treat myself to a fancy cool-down top…until I saw the price tag. €40 for a shirt to wear at the end of a workout is a wee bit out of my budget – not to mention insane…it’s basically just a sweatshirt with holes in it…hey…think I can make one for free?

Yup! In 5 minutes & no sewing! Here’s how:

Grab an old baggy-fitting sweatshirt – this was originally my hubby’s & an awful grey-yellow – a bit of simplicol dye in beere took care of the colour…

Lay flat & slice off half of each arm & the entire neckline.

Double roll/cuff the sleeves & cut a half-circle out of each shoulder – use your first chopped semi-circle as a template for the other side.

That’s it!

Put it on and enjoy your cool-downs in style!

*also awesome for yoga!

baby weight be gone: more motivation please

I don’t know if it’s the sudden (& extremely late) appearance of frozen snowy weather, insanely busy work schedule or simple laziness but my getupandgo workout attitude has taken a super nose dive…I’m still exercising daily but it’s a real pain in the arsch to get myself going…this is just a normal hiccup in the work-out-baby-weight-loss journey…right?

Fingers crossed for a more positive diary post next week or better yet why not join me? Let’s motivate each other!

Kekse zum Knabbern!

Our little sweet pea is in full teething mode (& is sporting 2 shiny new teeth!). We’ve searched everywhere for sugar & chemical-free baby biscuits but apparently they don’t exist in Germany – even in natural food stores, bah! After a few bizarre & slightly frightening results I finally came up with a quick & easy 3 ingredient combination that the baby, the hubs & even the dog love to munch on!

Grab 1/2 cup unsweetened all-natural applesauce, 1/2 cup whole wheat flour & 1/2 cup multigrain baby cereal (a.k.a mush)

Chuck everything together in a large bowl & mix well

*if you want to create proper shapes roll out the dough & use cookie cutters

As I was at the end of my experimenting-with-baking rope I just tore off pieces of dough and shaped them with my hands.

Bake at 180C/350F/Gasmark 4 for 15 – 25 minutes.

*less time = softer biscuits & more time = a firmer cracker-y biscuit

Let cool completely…

…enjoy the smiley, drooly, knabbern result!

Lickety Split Baby Pants

I made these beauties in under 10 minutes! Here’s the headsmackinglyeasy how-to:

Grab a couple of leftover long sleeves from your stash (your baby’s hip to ankle in length) & a piece of jersey (or t-shirt sleeve) large enough to fit your around little one’s waist.

Turn your sleeves inside-out & lay one on top of the other.

Chop off the corner(s) on 1 side. This will eventually be the front/back area of the pants. I just eyeballed the amount I cut but if your unsure use a pair of well fitting inside-out-folded-in-half baby pants as a guide.

You should now have 2 legs

Pop 1 leg inside of the other (right sides facing) & line up the V’s.

Stitch only the V-areas together.

Pull the leg out of the other & voila: almost pants!
