the tic tac toe skirt

Can ya figure out what I dredged from of the depths of my mountainous stash to create this charmingly delightful little skirt?

If you guessed a tacky old batwing top, you’d be right…

as it was an awful faded red colour I busted out the fabric dye & got creative with some saved plastic eggs (my hair dye gloves come packaged in these beauties) & elastics

I took apart each egg & placed the halves on the shirt…

then wrapped the fabric around them, twisted & secured with an elastic…

I had no idea what result was to come from the wrapped eggs but it couldn’t have been any worse than the original faded red & experimenting with fabric dye is loads of fun!

After a black dye job, egg removal & wash I had a rockin’ dark purple shirt with fabulous pink lace & circular pattern…

as batwing shirts are absolutely not my style I flipped it upside down, turned it inside out & placed it flat on the floor…

and chopped off the sleeves, shoulder seams & neckline of the shirt…

then stitched up the sliced sides…

and gave it a new hem…

there were a few tiny holes (conveniently located in one of the circles)

so I snagged the chopped wrap-ties leftover from this tute, cut ’em to size & stitched some cute X’s into my O’s!

Wheeee! A kicky new skirt, with super comfy wide waistband!
