The Great Thrift Outfit Swap

Ariane (my fellow Canadian frugal fox & creator of the brilliant Thrift Outfit blog) and I challenged each other to create a funky look out of the thrifted bits of awesome we received in our international swap…

are you diggin’ that glittery poncho she sent as much as I am?

Crocheted Beanie (Gift from Belle Monde Handmade) €0 – Vintage Sunglasses (thrifted) €0.20 – Earrings (flea market) €0.50 – Poncho (from Ariane) €0 – Longsleeved Tee (had for years) €0 – T-skirt (refashioned) €0 – Leggings (thrifted) €1 – Knit socks (handmade gift) €0 – Chunky-heeled shoes (had for years) €0

Awesome Ariane also sent me the gorgeous embroidered tunic that I had coveted from her Inspire…expire post:

…but what looked fabulous on her appeared as if I’d been playing dress-up in an elementary school costume box on me.

a chop + a bit of elastic & a quick hem =

a delightful new skirt!

Earrings (handmade gift) €0 – Vintage blouse (thrifted) €1 – Skirt (refashioned) €0 – Knit socks (handmade gift) €0 – Geisswein galoshes (ebay) €14  & my solution for saving my bottom from being unintentionally flashed as I walk up the stairs in a skirt: a pair of boxer briefs

and a fantastic vest top!

Longsleeved Tee (had for years) €0 – Embroidered vest top (refashioned) €0 – Belt (thrifted) €1.50 – Jeans (had for years) €0 – Schweden Clogs (had for 17 years – now that’s quality!) €0

A Mad About Plaid Thrifty Thursday

Perhaps it’s due to my Irish/Scottish roots but I’m definitely a fan of plaid (& tartan)!

*and by popular demand I’ve sifted through my box-of-awesomeness-from-the-past to bring you yet another TT themed throwback pic:

according to the back of this pic I was “out eating shabu shabu last summer” – way to be specific young Sheri

Holy eyebrows batman! Mad about plaid indeed!

I have loads of plaid in my wardrobe and had a wee bit of a hard time deciding just which bits of thrifted fabulousness to share but finally decided to build an ensemble from my refashioned-from-dude-trousers wool shorts…

Smoking jacket (thrifted) €2 – Graphic Tee (thrifted) €1.50 – Plaid-ish Bag (thrifted) €1 – Plaid Wool Shorts (stolen from the dude & refashioned) €0 – Plaid Tights (had for years) €0 – Suede lace-ups (thrifted) €3

Total cost: €7.50

thrifty copycat: gingham stories

It’s no secret that I’m not much of a fashion-trend-follower & prefer to revel in my own quirky style… BUT I do have a soft spot for unique thrifty outfits so when I saw Ariane’s gingham & floral ensemble infatuation struck & I knew I had to recreate the look.

*Coincidentally I had recently been given a pair of vintage gingham trousers at the flea market by a rather flirtatious older gentleman who thought they would “suit my young self”…

Just a couple of freaking cool Canadians, eh?

Flower Power Sunglasses (thrifted & refashioned) €0.20 – Floral Blouse (ebay & refashioned) €1.50 – Vintage Wristlet (flea market) €3 – Rings (thrifted & handmade) €0.10 – Vintage Gingham Trousers (flea market) €0 – Vintage Sandals (ebay) €6

Total outfit cost: €10.80

…and how awesome is my mint condition 1960’s leather wristlet? The lovely elderly seller at the flea market said she got it as a gift in 1966 and never used it…this fabulous & oh-so-functional little bag shall get loads of use now!
